Why Choose a 4 Day Gorilla Trekking Safari?

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to more than half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. A 4 day safari is perfect for travelers who want a short but complete adventure. You will trek through the misty forest, spend one magical hour with a gorilla family, and also enjoy game drives and boat cruises in Uganda’s most popular national park.

Your 4 Day Gorilla Trekking & Wildlife Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Entebbe/Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from Entebbe International Airport or your hotel in Kampala. You will drive southwest through beautiful countryside, crossing the Equator for a memorable photo stop. You will arrive at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the evening. Check into your lodge, enjoy dinner, and rest well for the big day ahead.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

This is the highlight of your safari. After an early breakfast, you will go to the park headquarters for a briefing at 6:30 AM. You will be assigned to a gorilla family and meet your ranger guides. The trek can take 1 to 6 hours, depending on where the gorillas are located. You will hike through dense forest, following fresh trails and listening for the sounds of the gorillas. When you find them, you will spend one unforgettable hour watching them play, eat, and interact. You will be just a few meters away from these gentle giants. After the trek, you will receive your gorilla trekking certificate. In the afternoon, you can relax at your lodge or visit a local community.

Day 3: Bwindi to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most visited park. You will pass through the famous Ishasha sector, where you can spot tree-climbing lions resting in fig trees. You will arrive at your lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel. This is one of the best ways to see hippos, buffaloes, crocodiles, and a huge variety of birds up close.

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park to Entebbe/Kampala

Start your day with an early morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will see elephants, lions, leopards, Uganda kobs, and many other animals in the open savanna. After the game drive, return to your lodge for breakfast and then drive back to Entebbe or Kampala. You will arrive in the evening with unforgettable memories of your Uganda safari.

What You Need to Know Before You Go

Gorilla Permits

A Uganda gorilla trekking permit costs $800 per person for non-residents in 2026. Only 8 visitors are allowed per gorilla family per day, so permits sell out quickly. We recommend booking 3 to 6 months in advance, especially for peak seasons. We can handle the entire permit process for you.

Best Time to Go

Gorilla trekking is possible all year round. The best months are June to September and December to February, when the trails are drier and the skies are clearer. The wet season from March to May offers lush forests and easier permit availability.

Fitness and What to Bring

Gorilla trekking requires moderate fitness. The terrain is steep, muddy, and often at altitude. Porters are available to carry your bag and help you on the trail. Bring hiking shoes, comfortable clothes, a camera, insect repellent, and a packed lunch.
